Thanksgiving: A time to ponder the past.
To reflect on home, on fellowship, on things that last.
Those precious possessions that we hold so dear,
And be thankful for those that we still have near.
What do I personally have to be thankful for?
Each year there seems to be more and more.
Just to be an American tops the list
Of those wants and needs that help me to exist.
I'm thankful for our country's way of life,
With freedom from fear and want and strife,
And for the endless bounty of this wondrous land,
Where in time of need you'll get a helping hand.
Thankful for family and friends who through the years
Have shared their pain and pleasures, their joy and tears.
And thankful for my health, though better it could be,
For I know that many are far worse off than me.
I'm especially thankful for my loving wife;
Who without complaint has, with me, shared her life.
Steadfast and true, my faults she did never disclose;
Followed wherever I roved, and remained ever a rose.
So this Thanksgiving what more can I say?
I have so much to be thankful for and I can only pray
That all will give thanks in their own special way,
And rejoice in this great American Holiday.
