Throughout the history of American Fireworks,
above the color guards, I had thought of the
many, faded legends, beyond the passing of
fathers, and forgotten pictures, of Uncle Sam,

I put a seashell to my ear and it all comes back to me, the burning blinding sun reflecting off the salty sea.
The sky so empty blue that its hard to tell where it all ends and the sea begins.
I could feel the scorching smooth sand burning at my feet whenever I walked on it.
I could hear the sound of seagulls circling above my head and the calm waves breaking as they hit the seabed.

YOU CRUSHED MY DREAMS OF BECOMING SOMETHING IMPORTANT IN LIFE.
YOU CRUSHED ME UNDER ALL THAT WEIGHT OF LIES ABOUT LOVING ME.
YOU CRUSHED ME WHEN I TOLD YOU I DIDN'T LIKE IT WHEN YOU ACTED LIKE A JERK TOWARDS ME,AND SLAPPED ME FOR SAYING IT.
YOU CRUSHED ME WHEN WHEN YOU SAID YOU WOULD LEAVE IF I DIDN'T DO WHAT YOU TOLD ME TO DO.

far away a voice is calling
someone long ago, who’s fallen
I listen hard and hear it say

A perfectly manicured lawn
Surrounds a sea of bright white crosses
Standing stoically, silently
In the early morning mist

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.

We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As TAPS began to play.

Make my death a canticle for peace.
Evil has no greater friend than anger,
Making ready converts to its cause.
On me think but of beauty as you pause,
